Not everyone who trains in boxing, or has the desire to will have the chance to fight in either the amateur or professional ranks, but that does not mean they don’t want to test themselves in the ring and experience the thrill of actually fighting. The QFL gives fighters from all walks of life and skill levels the opportunity to compete and test themselves just like the professionals.
The Queensbury Fight League would like to say a massive thank you to all of the fighters and their fans that attended our Judgement Day show last Saturday evening at the Effingham Park hotel. Once again the venue was packed and everyone who came along to the show were treated to some fantastic boxing action.
In the first of the two title fights taking place on the show, Tadworth's Jimmy Mizon produced the goods and stopped the game Callum Hardey from Caterham to lift the vacant Queensbury British Welterweight title. Midway through the third round Hardey was on the receiving end of some heavy shots and with their fighter's well being in mind Hardey's trainer threw in the towel saving his man from further punishment and handing the victory to a delighted Mizon.
In the evenings headline fight Brighton's Mark "The Hammer" Smith took on last minute stand in Junior Bayou for the Queensbury Novice Heavyweight strap. In something of a cinderella man story Bayou produced a shock second round knockout when Smith seemed well in control of the action. Caught with a heavy uppercut that scrambled his senses, Smith found himself on the canvas for the first time in the contest, and bravely tried to get back to his feet but referee Seamus Dunn had seen enough and waved the contest off.
On the undercard there were some fantastic fights including the memorable wars between debutants Gary Cook and James Power and Aaron Bogle vs Craig Pockett. Producing one of the stand out performances of the evening Mordens Lee Dalglish showed just how well he can box with a proper training camp behind him and showed Bournemouth's Steve Brazier every shot in the book to win a unanimous points victory. With some exciting bouts already being talked about for the Queensbury Fight League's November 27th show and both Mizon and Bayou defending their newly won crowns the 27th looks set to be another date in the diary not to be missed.
